As for taking off the faceplate, most pioneers have a separate button for ejecting the cd and for moving the faceplate. But i dont know. I dont see that model head unit on pioneer's website. Any links?

yeah i had a DEH5500mp and it had the fold down or flipdown faceplate, that had two seperate buttons, but on my 8600mp it has the motorized face so its the same, but i gotta try what jonnyb said about holding the button down, maybe that works

Hold down the eject button for a few seconds and it should drop open without ejecting.

the main problem possible from leaving a CD in a head unit is heat.
if the car gets hot enough, the CD can warp or melt in the player, damaging the player and preventing ejection of the disc.
This is the samw reason you're not supposed to leave CDs in the car or in direct sunlight, too.
