If its the box with 2 12s, then its 2 ohm. You will have to pull the subs out, and wire one to each chanel of your amp, OR
Get a mono amp that can run 2 ohms.

i found it on mtx's website, and if it is the 4500 like the one he linked to, it's 4 ohm. but if its the 5500, it's 2 ohm. i'm guessing the amp is just f'd. you can't expect much from a pawn shop.

there's your problem. you said you were bridging your amp, and that sub is dual 4 ohm, so i'm guessing you have it wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load. a 2 ohm load won't work with most, especially sony, 2 channel amps when their bridged. that's why its going into protection, too low of an impedence. stop wasting your money on fuses, and either buy a new sub that can go with that amp (single 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm). or you can buy a new amp for that sub, like a mono 2 ohm stable.
EDIT: for now, you can try wiring each coil to each channel. that will present a 4 ohm load to each channel (that sony will thank you for it), and you might be underpowering it, but that sub doesnt need much anyway
