need advice on zx750.1 w/kicker comp box wiring

Post by thinknoffcenter »

hi all, kinda new to this car audio thing, so i have a quick question.

I just obtained a brand new sub/amp setup from a dude who owed me some cash. it consists of 2 kicker comp subs (here's a link) http://www.kicker.com/comp_subboxes
and a zx750.1 amp

now, i know the box is wired at 2 ohm load, and i also know that the box will only take 300 rms, but the amp puts out 750 rms at a 2 ohm load.

so is it safe to run it at these settings at like a lower gain setting or lower volume? should I rewire the box for an 8 ohm load and only get like 200 rms out of the amp? will that hurt it?

any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

if your new to car audio, i'd suggest running the amp at 8 ohms which is perfectly fine for the amp, otherwise you could easily blow those kicker comps. I'd try selling the subs and/or box, and upgrade to a little bit beefier subs

ok, so i got the box rewired for 8 ohms, now, everytime i hook up the amp my fuses blow. i've tried hooking up the ground at the amp then the power and vise versa, and i've tried hooking up the amp and then hooking up the battery. what am i doing wrong? do i have a bad ground?

i'm grounded in the trunk, to a single sheet of paint free metal, with a nut and bolt.

Thanks

Sounds like you got a toasted amp.

Are you certain you've wired the subs correctly?

Do you have ground and Power backwords? are you sure you havent done that accidentally already? Something in your power wire is shorting. How is you wire run ?

absolutely. have a wire running from one neg terminal on one sub to the positive on the other sub, then the other positive running to the terminal, and the neg on the other to the terminal.

power wire is run from the battery, through the firewall w/ grommet to the trunk down the passenger side of the car (the side the battery is on). there is a 100 amp fuse about 8" from the battery.

You have a short somewhere start tracing your power wire. thats the only reason fuses blow.
