how do you wire your headunit??

Post by Tim »

Just got to thinking and got curious how you all like to wire the headunit.

Do you: use crimp caps

Do you: solder the connections and heat shrink em (or use black tape)

or

Do you: just twist em together and hope for the best??

Just thought Id start a new thread,

I use crimp caps or solder and heat shrink.

i use crimp caps, butt connectors are less reliable because teh wire does not get twisted first. so now one connectioin becomes like 3, id use just tape before using butt connectors....chain, weakest link thing, you get the pic

Solder and heat shrink only.

As smoker points out, butt connectors suck nuts. I had an issue long ago with them and wont use them anymore.

The crimp caps wouldnt be to bad, but I like the security of the solder.

the reality of it is that twist and tape is as secure as anything as long as you strip enough wire to twist it securly....but the crimp caps are quicker than using tape on every connection....

i used to have problems with butt connectors, but then i found an old pair of crimping pliers in my dad's toolbox which really get a good crimp with lots of pressure and havn't had a problem since. Solder can be a pain sometimes
