We have to have our Fluke meters sent our for calibration once a year, so I know mine is pretty damn accurate. Just part of my job.

I'm tending to think that it's due in part to a mixture of the voltage and load. He ran 4 guage from the front battery to the small dry cell in the trunk. One thing I should have measured was the voltage, at the amplifier, during play.

I did measure that he was only pulling 13-14 amps (I have a calibrated clamp-on amp probe as well, again part of my job) during play.

measure ac voltage at the amp while playing and ac current on the + lead. that will give you reactive load actual power and will hint at clipping.

I'd love to be able to do that. Only problem is, it's already disconnected, and waiting for me to pick up.

Gah!

So yeah, anyone want to test it for me? lol

I'm actually heading out of town tomorrow for about a week and a half.

His install is definately not that great, by any means.

I'm not going to worry about it, and just buy it back. Not like it was a ton of money anyways. That, and I won't have to worry about him sending me messages all the time.

So you are giving the guy his money back because he is a moron?

He might have damaged the amp the way it was installed. Tell him to install it properly before he uses it again.

I'd make it clear to him that the amp works fine and that you are only buying it back so you don't have to deal with him.

I've verified that the amplifier works fine.

EDIT: I've verified that the amplifier works. However, I'm sick of trying to mess around with this guy, so I'm just going to buy it back, have it bench tested so there is no naysayers, and re-sell it.

If I'm proved wrong on the bench test, then that would be my bad. Currently, the only things that I could have seen that could have done any damage to it would be the ohm load provided to the amplifier, as it's rated at 1 ohm.
