If I used the test light would I connect the alligator clip to the ground wire or just bare metal?

What should the readings be I'm sure the Battery/Memory would register 12v what about the Ign/Acc what should it be?

Whats the easiest way to test a used cd player to see if it works without actually hooking it up in a car?
