I don't think threatening like that is going to get him anywhere. I'm in school part time, work full time and I still pay rent, car, insurance, buy dinner for them sometimes, etc. Just get yourself on their plan, show them that you can do it. But while you're doing that, make sure you're proactive in getting to where you want to be. If you want to do welding/metalwork, get yourself in an apprenticeship or something at local metalshop, or get some classes on it. This will also show your parents that you are looking for a future, and they will respect that.

my dad says as long as i'm in school, i don't have to pay rent. tell your parents that if they keep treating you like this theyre never going to see their grandkids and when they get old and sick you won't be there to help them.

well....i have worked out an arrangement woth my rents...paying 50-75 dollars a week for rent... plus car insurenece and car payment.... iv been working 40 hr weeks...thinking about getting another job part time....so be working a full time and a part time job.....hopefuklly getting a job at a metal shop...so i can make sure i want to weld for a living....

I dunno Army sounds really cool untill you contemplate where you'd like to get shot if it ever happened. I concluded I'd like to get shot in...my...umm..see thats why I'm not in the Army because frankly I don't want to get shot I'm a sissy.

Just wondering what did you get on your ASVAB. Because, a mechanic is usually a job they try to get everyone into. Welding however is pretty hard to get because there are really not to many welders in the Army. Like in most motorpools there may be lets say 30 mechanics and no welders, because they are only with the special mechanics that put in new engines and stuff like that.

Yanno, at first it honestly sounded cool. Traveling around in a pond in a ship, doing what I do. Then it dawned on me... I might be out in the middle of the ocean, trying to make good parts in an emergency situation, with bullets flying into the ship, torpedos, etc...
