if you didnt have a fuse in you would have a dead amp! Congrats on finding the problem but make sure to keep your eyes open for expensive mistakes.

Im not exempt either there are a few guys on this forum that almost watched me fry 10k worth of amps when i flipped my autotek 4000's on at 18v.

this is what threw a red flag up at me...Make sure the wire isnt chaffed going through the firewall. I know you have a grommet, but in car audio anything can and usually does happen. Also make sure all your connectors have completley covered the wiring. All it takes is one strand to cause a short.

and also go back and recheck your wiring. Even if you know it is right.

thanks, i'll check to see if the sheathing has been compromised anywhere.

You have a short somewhere start tracing your power wire. thats the only reason fuses blow.

by thinknoffcenter » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:50 am

absolutely. have a wire running from one neg terminal on one sub to the positive on the other sub, then the other positive running to the terminal, and the neg on the other to the terminal.

power wire is run from the battery, through the firewall w/ grommet to the trunk down the passenger side of the car (the side the battery is on). there is a 100 amp fuse about 8" from the battery.

Do you have ground and Power backwords? are you sure you havent done that accidentally already? Something in your power wire is shorting. How is you wire run ?

Are you certain you've wired the subs correctly?
