Anyone been caught for Downloading copyrighted movies?

Post by CaptainPioneer »

Well you might have guessed by the title that I got caught downloading copyrighted material, specifically a movie. Basically I got warned before but really it was somethign that wasnt me and this time they are cancelling my service to my apt, which i dont give a shit about really. But... anyway do you think that since it was just my provider and not the RIA that called me that i will not see any legal action?

Im not really a bad person... I just like to watch a movie before i buy it to know if its worth its price. Anyway... just curious to see what you guys think

I don't know. Since they only have proof of one movie, I doubt anybody would bother to go through the expense of prosecuting you. Unless they find more stuff on your computer or something they can add to the charges or something.

Unless they report you to the authorities, then they will seize your computer... I hope for your sake that they don't, but know that now that you've been caught once they will probably be watching you like a hawk.

They don't have to "hack" your computer to see that things are going to your computer, especially on P2P networks such as torrents.

I run a program called PeerGuardian which blocks all government/agencies/blocked/fake IP addresses from getting a response from your computer. Of course this doesn't stop RIAA or anyone else from using "private" IPs or IP spoofing so you wouldn't even know, but it's a step in the right direction.

The best thing to do is run off a proxy so you're essentially hiding your IP address and using the web anonymously.

well if they sieze my Pc... there is nothing on there... my external though.... lets just say that would be a problem... Im not selling the movies nor am i redistributing them... I just think its bs that i should have to pay $10 to go see a movie that turns out to suck hardcore... I usually buy movies that i like... for instance.. .Sweeny Todd.. .loved it so ill buy it.

Well they would search your house for any and all drive formats if they did.
