Possible new dash

Post by Robert Wollenberg »

What do you guys think? This is just an idea. I had some free time on my hands so I was playing around in photoshop. This would be a 10" wide-screen monitor turned sideways. The scaling is probably off. I think there would be room to also build in at least one cdrom, maybe two if I used the slim laptop type.

I'm just playing around with ideas. If I can't find computer hardware/software that's capable of replacing an Alpine 701, I won't be going with a computer at all. I just like the idea of the carputer and the possibilities that go with it.

I don't know what's behind my HVAC controls either. I saw a thread somewhere regarding relocating F-body HVAC controls. Would that apply to you? I'll see if I can find it again and post it here for you.

Well this is just me, but the upright screen just looks funny... don't get me wrong it would be a very nice custom dash, but if it were me I think I'd opt for an 8" screen in a conventional angle... Which ever way you decide though... like I said... It would look really good and definately give the car a whole new feel ;)

Well, I have no idea what I'm getting into trying to relocate the hvac controls. I was just playing around on photoshop anyway. I'm not sure if the 8" screen will even fit. I'm sure the 7" will. I need to measure the opening, but I'm like 8,000 miles away from my car right now. :( lol. If I don't move the controls, I'll probably still change out that top vent area with a engine management controller or something. I don't know. We'll see. Why are you still up Michael? You should be sleeping.

the one I was looking at is under $400 for a 7" and about $650 for the 10" if I was to go that route. I don't think that's bad for a touch screen.
