Cheap rent, need roomates
Hey guys, I'm now accepting applications for roommates. Rent is cheap. All utilites are included. Unfortunately the nearest toilet or shower is in a different building, however, it's a small price to pay for living in the lap of luxury. You will get your own bunk, and two, I repeat two wall lockers. And one may even lock (if your the first one here. I already took the other two that lock. The rest are all broken) Please bring your own body armor and weapons as good gear is hard to come by here. I look forward to hearing from you. You'll have to e-mail me as commerical phone lines are also not available. Hurry while there's still room available.
The Afghan in the other picture with me is the gentleman in charge of making sure the housing area stays clean. He sweeps up the leaves and makes sure the trash stays empty. I guess that's all he does. I'm not really sure to be honest. A very nice guy though. We talk a little every morning. He keeps trying to teach me new Dari words, but I tend to forget by the next time I see him. Damn it.

We've got some Jersey Barriers, but nothing like what you have. We've got some of those other barriers too, the cloth lined cages filled with dirt. But around the housing area I live in, we've got a shitty brick wall about 10ft. high or so with some sheet metal on top of that held up with some sticks. There's nothing secure about where I live. Nothing. It's creapy man, I'm telling you. I'd way rather be back at Balad then here.
in this pick you can see part of the road I have to walk down to get to where I live. Up on the right, where the guards are standing around is where I get into the compound where I sleep. The barriers you see at the corner are only around the entrance. The rest of the perimeter you could probably fall through if you leaned against it. So, as you can see, I don't get a sidewalk to walk down. You just have to hope you make it from one gate to the next without being hit by a car or blown up by one.
I'm not too worried about posting any of this on the web since hundreds if not thousands of Afghans walk/drive through here every day. So it's not like this isn't already public knowledge to anybody how might wish to use it agianst U.S. forces. Although I almost got jacked up taking the pictures. lol. Luckily I'm Public Affairs so as soon as I said that, everyone backed of. :)

I sleep almost right under the heater at the far end of the porch. I have a space heater at my feat and the other one blows over me. The porch is so drafty, with all three heaters going, some mornings I wake up and it's about 60 in there. We're trying to plug holes and cracks as we find them with toilet paper and 90MPH tape, but it's still very drafty. And those windows don't help either. We've got styrofoam in a couple windows, but can't find any more for the rest of the windows. The windows are not weathershild or anything, we're talking a single pane of glass barley holding onto the window frame. In a way, it's kinda funny, but the cold weather is just getting here. It will be snowing soon. Then things will get real interesting.
