Yay! I has a job again!

Post by William from NOLA »

Well, as a few of you know, I have been unemployed since July when I quit my assistant webmaster job on account that they wouldn't give me a full time contract. And that is after they said they would.

I have just been hired as a TSA Screener with the international airport here. I am now a Government employee.

It took FOREVER to get hired. Tests and whatnot.

My first real full-time job (that is actually full-time).

Congrats on the government job, I know you wont get top dollar but good pay and benefits. Government jobs for those who don't know are quite hard to get if your not prior service and even if you are. Now TSA is not the hardest but still is a pain with the aforementioned tests. I plan to apply for the Department of Homeland Security, TSA falls under them, and ICE (Imigration) agains falls under DHS. Just realized I am starting to thread jack sorry man. Congrats, hopefully I will have one in a couple of months, open applications are not until Jan. 2008.

Thanks. It took quite some time to get it too. I first applied at the beginning of August, and just today I was officially hired. I had multiple tests in between such as medical, a standardized test (basically an SAT/ACT), interview, an INSANE background check, etc.

I may move to customs after a little while. My uncle has a pretty high up position with them and does a lot of flying back and forth to D.C.

Don't worry about thread jack, I've said all I was going to lol.

Edit: No bombs or knives are getting past me!

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is who conducts the investigations regarding trying to sneak things through, they sneaked Radiological (fake) through the Canadian border recently. It is kind of BS because the sensors accross the border would have picked up real Radiological material. Anyway if they bring stuff even fake through your airport heads will roll, so be careful. In the Army they always said stay vigilant and you need to because complacency kills. Just curios what are the benefits as far as paying student loans or continuing education. I know the government has great benefits but not sure on the education end of things.

Not sure on the education. I never looked into that because I'm done my edumacation. (Graduated in Film/Communications last May).

Benefits vary on who you work for, but wherever, they will be good. One thing I picked up on was that you get full benefits even if you work part-time. However, the time spent part-time doesn't count toward retirement years.

I'm almost done with my education too, Bachelors in Homeland Security and another in Criminal Justice, I am just thinking Masters. Remember those keys to take your faceplate off your headunit? I had one of those confiscated once it said Clarion right on it.
