another bright idea

Post by pimpmaynard »

well, i was looking at the manual for my jl audio 12w3v2d4's and i saw the diagram to wire them to 1ohm. so i rewired them, put them back in the sealed box, and ran them to the ppi art a600.2. i'm wondering if this was a very bright idea or not, i installed them back into the trunk, reran all the wiring really fast, still paying attention to do it properly, with good connections, and i'm wondering if take the subs down to 1ohm is going to damaged anything. according to jl, the subs are capable of bring brought down that far, and the amp has fuses protecting it. i took it for a test run, and it was pretty decent. but i'm not sure if it's one of those things where it's decent for an hour, then it blows, or what? any ideas?

Well the subs should be able to handle the load since they are rated to handle up to the 300w rms each with ease... although I must say that the amp suprises me as it is rated at 2 ohm minimum and should have gone into protect at the sign of a 1 ohm load.

sealed box = higher reactive load = no protect light.

when i first hooked it up, i tested it at low volumes, and kept an eye on the subs. i have a remote, so i can stand behind my car, and be working in the trunk, and still be able to adjust the volume. i was very careful, and frankly, quite scared. but it seems to be functioning quite well. nothing like american made old school amps! gogo!
