Maybe there is hope for kicker...

Post by audiobass10 »

I've really been skeptical about how the new Kicker products woud fair compared to the old stuff. Well a good guy that i talk to online regulary just purchesed a pair of the brand new Kicker Comp VR 12's. Keep in mind he competes in MECA and is an spl guy. He wanted to test them out right after purchasing them so he threw one of em in an old ported box he had lyin around for a single 12. He metered it on the TL and it hit a 144.7 with 800rms. Pretty impressive if you ask me. I never would have expected it from those subs. He also said they sounded real nice. To me, this sounds like good news for kicker...we'll see.

Wow, that is impressive. I have a friend that has two Soloberic L510's for sale. He has them in his truck right now. I wasent impressed at all. He has them powered to the full RMS, they get fairly loud but distort really bad. After that i stopped looking at Kicker products. I had herd some of the old Kicker Comp's before and they sound pretty good. I might start lookin at Kicker for my 66 Chevelle. I dont know though, might just stick to a couple RE8's. But im glad to hear Kickers products are comin back. Good news for Kicker

That's pretty good for a single 12. Any specs on the box for us? vehicle too? Also, he did use the new TL meter right? (not the old one in other words)

Vehicle is a Monte Carlo (99') I think. I believe he uses the old TL for testing..not positive...he does it all in his garage. I'll post some specs when i get a chance to talk to him tonight. He's very good with boxes. http://www.spkrman.com is his website..they show some of his installs in his Monte Carlo and some he's done for other people.

i know a guy who had 4 kicker comp VRs (15" i believe, but not 100%) in this huge box and then he got a 18" xxx and he said its louder and sounds better. i guess something could have been off but who knows.

id love to hear some solobaric subs, only one ive heard is the solox 18" and all you can really hear is the car shaking, you dont actually hear the notes :P

ah btw

kicker has never stepped down... the only "step down" you could say, would be from the OLD school comps, to the newer comps... but of course, thats what the CVR is there for :)

They get better with every revision.. the only thing with the l7's is reliability issues.

The CVR's have a SUPER strong motor and are the most durable subs i've ever used ($ and rating taken into account, of course).

Unlike most other Old School companies... kicker has never sold out, they have only gotten better and cheaper!

ANd yep... all scores are from the trunk of my monte carlo, no special install... just a simple rear firing box. Of course... i've done testing out the butt to get where I'm at :)

Ditto to kicker L7's being unreliable. Ive sent 3 back to kicker to be fixed. And i believe all because of voice coil failure. The other one had a broken tinsel lead which i resoldered.

yea, they had major issues with the earlier release of the 05 l7's.

and always have had that problem with the surrounds wearing out.

Still loud, and still cheap for what they do!
