Rainbow SLX 265 Deluxe versus CSX 265

Hi folks,

I can't afford anything higher than the above mentioned models from Rainbow. They are $20 apart, so I'm wondering what the differences really are. Any suggestions or comments are welcomed. I thought about going the CDT route, but everywhere I've read, people were only happy with the $400 HD series, which is out of my price bracket.

Will either Rainbow sets work fine with 75 rms per channel? Any comments regarding their quality? Thanks.

i also am considering purchasing a pair of rainbow slx 256's. i had a nice pair of mb quart qm130s, with 1'' tweets and crossovers, but then the crossovers blew, and the speaker in the door fell apart or had an accident or something. they would be going in a 1997 grand am GT. i'll be running them with a 300 watt 2 channel ppi art series(the white pretty one). is this a good idea? do you think the rainbows can handle a 300 watt amp, (anyone that knows about old school ppi art series amps knows what i'm talking about). also, would it compliment the (2) jl audio w3v2d4's in a 3 cubic foot/per speaker ported box and a ppi art series 600 watt 2 channel amp. (matching the 300 watt, pretty and white) i'll be grateful for any input. thanks guys.

I know that Ryan and a couple others have run Rainbow and loved them... but I can't give any first hand advice except to say that I heard Ryans and they did sound nice.

they must be rare, i only see one pair of them for sale on ebay... because my alternatives are a set of those qsd216 mbquarts. they should sound beautiful, but these rainbows from what i've read sound quite nice aswell. choices, choices, anyone wish to lean me one way or the other?

Unfortunately Ryan used a $600 Rainbows set, so I don't know how that will compare with the $200 that we're interested in. Thanks for chiming in though.

I guess it's customary on this forum to hijack threads? Anyway... The specific Rainbows mentioned in this thread has RMS 100, max watt at 150. I'm pretty sure your amp is too much for it unless you turn your gain down. Secondly I'm pretty sure the Rainbows will sound radically different than the MB Quart. All the MB Quarts I've heard were pretty bright and harsh (metal tweeters). Rainbows are known for their silky smooth approach to sound.

When I was researching Rainbows with a budget of around $250, most people told me I could get better speakers for the price compared to the Rainbows.

the latest ed of ca and e didnt really put the rainbows to high infact a 150 dollar set of phonix gold rated higher

Cadence has what looks to be a very nice set on E bay for $84 shipped.

You wll notice the cheaper component dont offer a full crossover, a small 6dB one for tweeter is all you usually see...
