i'm just looking to put new speakers in up front. i have a 2002 honda civic w/ a "premier sound system" and a sony headunit. i'm not looking to spend more than $150 on speakers. i'm looking for a good quality bass speaker. i know that i can't make a huge difference in bass, since im only replacing the front 2, but i still want a good bass. i've looked at reviews for many different brands of 6.5 coaxials but i wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with any of the following speakers.

thanks

i'd reccomend polk audio out of those, however if you are looking into adding some bass, you should look into spending about 150 bucks more to buy a 4 channel amp with a sub bridged on the rear channel, and the front channel amping the front speakers. An amplifier will greatly help the sound quality of your front speakers and will provide you with plenty of bass because small speakers, especially those fitted into doors which are basically in an infinate baffle type enclosure will not provide much bass as their frequency response is limited to about 60 hz.

in all honesty you aren't going to get any bass from a sony deck and factory replacement front speakers.
that sony unit only puts out an actual 15-20 watts per channel peak. You're going to need an amplifier for the fronts to get decent midbass from them, and you'll need an amp and sub in back, even if it's a small 8" or 10" sub in a small sealed box, if you want deep bass in any form.
It's just a matter of bass being energy, and it takes a lot of energy (read amp power and cone area) to move enough air to get good, audible bass response.
I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but I've been in this business professionally, competitively, and as a hobbyist for the better part of twenty years now, and I've got enough experience to know there's no way to get cheap, good low end from a deck and some small speakers.
Many, many people have sought this before you, and many will continue to try.

PS using some dynamat or a similar product as speaker baffles for the doors will help tighten up the midbass response, too.
those cheap, crappy plastic standoffs Honda uses to mount door speakers are about the worst thing you can do for good sound quality. I'd take those out and mount the speakers in plywood, then screw the plywood to the door sheetmetal under the door panel/grille, if it was my car.

If you're looking for better midbass, then you may want to start by looking beyond coax speakers and look at components... get something decent that you can amp down the line (as previously stated "you're not getting much power out of your sony head unit")
Something like the Fusion Powerplant series PPCM65 can be had for well under $150

MaxxBass used to make a 1/2 din EQ with their "Psychoacoustic" bass deal. Well I believe it was a 1/2 din. Also I dont remember if you needed an amp or not...
They make a rear mounted unit that requires an amp currently- I know where one can be had for $100. Also on E bay under PPI and Orion.
You either need to buy an amp and try one of these units, or just buy an amp and try.
My friend has the S series, ALipine head run by an old junk Elevation amp. They get very loud. Due to the doors/baffle situation he doesnt have any speakable mid bass.
