JL XR 3-ways...
Have any of you had any experience with the JL XR 3-way component set?
the reason I ask, I've been having a midbass dilemma for sometime now. basically, I have a nasty hole. the cause, i found out, can be explained in the following article about QForms. http://www.elitecaraudio.com/article.ph ... utoff=3191
so, with my desire to keep the imaging i so love from my QForms, and the need for midbass, I first considered just buying some dedicated midbass drivers for my doors. but this would entail buying an additional amp and crossover, which i didn't really want to do since I'm already pushing my power limitations for my current electrical system. i also couldn't even find a midbass driver i really liked that was also affordable. i considered the kicker ssmb6 but never personally heard one and questioned their SQ.
but then, the other day, i thought about possibly just getting the JL XR 3-ways (i currently run the 2-ways). this would allow me to just use my current amps and not have to add an additional crossover to bandpass. How do you guys think this set would do with the tweeter and 4" midrange in the QForm, and 6.5" midbass in the door.
This would also keep the install clean and simple, which I'm a fan of.

well my brother is currently running q-forms in his truck, and the mid-bass is crappy at best! I would definitely look into a midbass for the doors, but the jl 3-ways would be the easiest way. The 4" mids would sound WAAAAY better as well.
Morel Elate 3-ways ran by a Genesis Series III Dual-mono, Morel Ultimo ran by an Autotek mm3000.1, Alpine DVA-9861

really? i currently have the 6.5", so all i need is the 4" and crossover. that would be really cool if i can save some money and only buy what i need.jonnyb wrote:what size mids of the XR do you have right now?
you can purchase the mids (either 4, or 6) individually, aswell with the 3way crossover.
Just make sure that the 6.5" is not a true midrange speaker. My K3P's have a dedicated 6.5" midrange, a dedicated 6.5" midbass and tweeter.
I am just saying that check on the JL's and find out if they have a dedicated 6.5" midbass. If so, you might be lacking midbass due to the frequencies that the current 6.5" woofer has to make up....both midbass and midrange.
