Computer help

Post by Ryan from Ohio »

Ok, bottom line is my pc is againg and not gracefuly...

I think my old arse ATI Radeon is starting to go out. Its 64 MB DDR...

Im not sure if I should do the quick fix and get another card or just a whole new tower or just go for a card to hold me over?

Heres my computer specs:

Asus board MRV something...
1.33 Ghz 266 FSB AMD Athlon
512 DDR PC2100 total
ATI Radeon 7200- 64 DDR
30 Gig Western Digital- 7200 RPM and a fast seek time...

Remember guys, this is like 5+ years old...

Anyways I just took another side job an Im going to need my PC for CAD stuff. Last time I run my CAD program it kinda was hanging up...

I would just save up and get a new computer. You really don't have to spend much now adays to get a kick-ass computer that dwarves your current one.

http://www.newegg.com is your friend.

if you just want a cheap computer that can get the job done then something like this would work http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... E400-T3302

other wise if you got the bucks you can always get better.

Sinister Kinda has the right idea, but I wouldn't look at the Emachines.
TigerDirect has great deals going on all the time on towers check this one out: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2204122&Sku=SYXS-DC-989243
Not bad for $500 bucks eh.

I personally don't like tigerdirect, bought a external HD from them. Had a problem with the fan (made some noise) and they wouldn't respond to any emails. Customer service sucks there.

I finally ended up just fixing it myself, I wasn't even asking for my money back. Just wanted another $2 fan.

I have had lots of people tell me you get better service when you call.

I think it just bugs me that they are a online reseller, and they ignore all customer service emails. I hate calling places, that's why I buy so much stuff online. So they lost me over that little thing

Ok,

The guy at Best Buy reccomends dual core processors. Claims its like having two processors... Also 1 gig of memory, which I figured. Now video I want seperate, and 128 DDR... Not this shared shit. No onboard video, but if the price is right and the card isnt bad I can just upgrade right away ;)

Ahhh what the hell. Im just going to go grab a video card toss it in this CPU and see what happens. Appears all the other comps in my price range have onboard video, so if I buy one eventually I can just toss my car in it...
