port displacement

Post by audiobass10 »

Just wondering..would you just figure the volume of a cylindar to find port displacement in a round port?

Usually they give you a square inch of port area...

Thats because most people preffer and run the slot ports.

Alright i'm just gunna confirm my calculations then. I will be using a 2" round port that is 14.75" long. The formula for the volume of a clyinder is pie*r^2*h (pie times radius squared times heighth. I come up with 43.315..that doesn't seem right though. I figured it would be a decimal. Maybe i'm leaving soemthin out in my calculations?

What kind of sub are you using? I would almost NEVER use a port smaller then 3". You have a good chance of a lot of port noise from a 2" port.

That's cubic inches. You just need to convert it to cubic feet.

43.315 cubic inch = 0.0250666 cubic foot

Take your cubic inches and divide by 1728, that's your cubic feet.

Thanks William for the conversion site . And Justin, the sub is the RE8 I originally wanted you to make cutsheets for. I decided it might be better to try to build this box on my own because its something I've wanted to start doing. After talking to some people on aim..it seems much easier than it use to. However Justin, I'm still probably gunna need cutsheets for two Tempests ported when I decide to buy those. I figured the RE8 would be a good sub for me to build a box with on my own, but the two tempests will be more complicated.
