Sub Break in

Post by NViejeP »

If all goes well my sub should be here Wednesday. Finally huh? It's an eclipse sw7324. How should I go about the breaking in period? I really want to just go out and blast it, but I'm going to take all precautions and let it break in first.

How do I break it in and how long?

And whats the voltage formula again? Thanks

well theres alot of different opinions on the "breaking in" of a sub.. some say do it, some say it doesnt matter.. what you can do to play it safe, at moderate volume you can play various songs for around a week at a little less than half your volume.. ofcourse this is after you have all your settings set and are good to go... you will probably run into some burning smell, but that will be any excess glue burning off.. its normal.. but make sure you can tell the difference between distortion and SQ :words

anything with moving parts should really have a break-in period. to be on the precautionary side, play it at low to moderate volumes for about a week.
if you dont feel like not being able to bang your system when you get your sub, hook it up to your home theatre and loop sine sweeps and pink noise for about 10-20 hours.

voltage = sq rt (Power x Resistance)

so take your expectage wattage, multiply it by the ohm load, then find the square root of that, and that will be your wattage on the speaker terminals of the amp.

do what jonny said or just run for a week or so about low to mid volume. i have seen people run 10-20hz sweeps for 10 hours or so and that seems to work well. just make sure you have a good battery charger!

Haha thats goign to be really hard, not blasting it right away.

But I think I'll play it at moderate volumes for like a week, is that cool?
