Simple ways to secure (anti-theft) your system

Hey guys n gals

I was just thinking of simple ways to secure my audio system in case any of these punks around here discovered what I'm riding with in my trunk.

Any suggestions of simple (emphasis on simple) ways to do this...

I was thinking of buying some thick screws with a loop and screwing that into my box and running a chain through it. I am a little scared it might rattle like heck, but perhaps if I have the chain quite snug it won't. I was mainly thinking along those lines... something simple where it won't be impossible for me to remove the box if I decided too. In this case, I would have the amps behind the box and the lock would be accessable (sp) from the inside of the car...

input? ideas?

Hmm...i dno about any locking ideas...

What i usually do is put L brackets on either side of the box. This will slow down a thief...especially if a strange type of screw is used.

Another thing you could do is screw the box to the floor and then install your subs.

under the carpet is all metal, I'm hesitant to drill any holes anywhere... no telling what is going on in my BMW...

BUT I'll take a look. I think your suggestion is definitely a better approach.

As for securing the box I would say use some L brackets for sure. Also when you install something, subs, amp, L brackets, etc. Use a odd type screw like a spanner screw or something along those lines.

Try not to use regular phillips screws cause every theif usually will have a screw driver with them.

I guess I am going to have to try to look under the car and make sure there is nothing for me to puncture and perhaps start a hole with a hammer and a tack/nail and then use some odd-type screws....

I'm sure screwing it into the carpet will do absolutely nothing but entertain potential thieves (sp)

do a stealth install, ie subs in the wheel-wells. get a good 2-way alarm

Both of those will work for securing the subs to the box and possibly securing box to car. The oneway (second) will only come out with a special driver, or a pair of pliers. Hard to get a pair of pliers on the head though.

Go with the spanner screw.

The holes for the subs are pre drilled as I noted earlier.

If you go to mount this box down make sure to but brakets large enough where the screws are about 1 1/2" from the bottom. Make sure to pre drill with like a 3/32" bit or so.

But per our previous emails I dont think you have a drill. So I dunnow what your gonna do

BTW Wal Mart sells these cheap ass drills/saws by Handi works or something. My jig saw was $10 and I think they had a 3/8" chuck drill for about that price also.

Works flawless and cuts straight. I love it except the ultra ghey color...lol

remove subs from box
bolt box directly to floor of car
caulk bolts to seal them
replace subs
now they have to take the subs out to take them.
Amplifiers, use Torx head screws or security screws to hold them down, and bolt them to something fixed or too large to remove from the car.
mount the radio in a concealable location.
BUY AN ALARM SYSTEM
Keep the install as stealthy as possible.

I'm gonna get a hold of a drill sooner than later...

I am thinking since I am going to face the subs toward the interior and I have an opening (right behind rear seat armrest) I can use L brackets on the front of the sub, even with regular screws...

That way, you'd have to steal it from the inside of the car. Otherwise you'd get a hernia (depending on how many L brackets I use) tyring to pull the box out, and probably give up figuring it's bolted down...

for whatever reason, I don't want it to be too much of a pain in the ass if I want to take the box out...but we'll see

I already have an alarm system, Python, but I used my Viper stickers from my old alarm on my car windows
