My setup

Post by alldaz »

Hey guys, i'm new to this forum. I just recently got into the car audioscene and I just want some advice. I'm only 17 years old and just finally bought my 2004 impala after all my years of working. Here's my setup:

Speakers: stock
Subwoofers: two (15'') power acoustik fubrs
Amplifier: 1 class D A2400DB amplifier
Headunit: Pioneer DEH-P8600MP

That's my setup so far (not bad for a kid eh?) :D

Now... I know like nothing about car amplifiers and i've blown subs before, I listen to rap music with deep bass, and I like to turn my radio up very loud, around 80%(the 80% was with my factory radio so I dont know how loud I'll turn my new pioneer up, I know it wont be no where near 80% unless I wont to go deaf because I know this new pioneer is way louder than my old one). Just know that I like to listen to rap pretty loud, and I DONT want to blow my subwoofer again, so all I know is that I should turn my rca voltage on my amplifier down to like 4V or like 5V so it wont blow. Other than that I have no idea so the QUESTION IS:

What should I turn my gain to approximately, and what type of box should I use because the guy who owns the shop I got it installed in gave me a sealed box but I dont know if the specs are right, plus these magnets are huge on this sub so it has to be custom. Keep in mind I have a 2004 Impala so my trunk is huge, I have plenty of space. Secondly, can I have some advice on my speakers I may get, tweeters, and tell me if I should get a small 4 channel ap for my speakers. Thanks and I look foward to getting to know you all better, peace! :s_thumbup

To set your gain u need to turn it up slowly 'til your subs start to distort, then turn it down just slightly. You should be right next to the sub for this. As for a box, if u just want it loud, go ported. As for speakers, do u want just tweeters or are u looking for mids as well? Tweeters im not so sure of but mids go for CDT, Adire, Rainbow...just to name a few.

So just buy a component set. That way it comes w/ both the mid and tweet and x-over :thumb:

since you like bass you should look into getting either RE Components (165$ shipped) or Adire Koda components (more around $400 I believe ;) ) to read a review on the Adire's, read Justin's review in the Product Review section. There are a couple RE component reviews at caraudio.com in the review forums as well. Good luck.

by the way how much $$ do you have to spend? You could get a couple RE subs or Adire subs and have some nice sounding bass, but it'd be semi-pricey. you could go for like 2 12" SX's or something. i dunno just a thought.
