(posted here because there is no home audio section... anyway)

I'd like to look into putting together a very basic home audio system. I'm not looking for anything amazing. Bascially all i want is a subwoofer and 4 speakers (2 mids, 2 tweeters) (esentially the same thing i've got in my car). I'd like to run thi sall of the same receiver/amp if possible. small budget too... i figured, run the re8 in a small sealed box with around 100w.. I was planning on using speakers from partsexpress for my mids and tweets btw...

btw, this will be used to listen to music, so being able to hit super low frequencies is not a concern to me at all. i just want something to put me between the shelf systems at best buy, and the really expensive stuff at best buy

EW to sealed! Throw the RE8 in around a 1 cu ft enclosure with a 2" aero port. Tune to around 25hz. Should be good for music and still do a decent job if you wanna throw in a movie.

There's a nice extended range driver to consider. 2 of those per tower will do the job. I wouldnt even mess with tweets. Personally..I'd go with 4 of those per towers if you could swing it..give you plenty of volume and a little low end with the RE8.

budget is buy 1 or a few things at a time..

honestly it all depends on how much money im making. one week i make $80, the next i could be making $170.. so yeah.

either case, im probably going to buy a few things at a time.. ie next week the re8before the sale ends. when you say towers, do they have to be those huge tall things or what? i want somethign thats going to be fairly small

im getting into home audio so if you figure out what your looking to spend and what you want out of it i could help guide you. partsexpress has some very nice stuff too.

Sealed just doesn't work in home audio. I've never seen a sealed subwoofer in a home application, only ported. even the cheapie 4" subwoofer drivers that come in the "All-In-One" deals are ported.

actaully alot of those cheapos have bandpass boxes just so they can get the most output from a crap driver. i would do a hella cool bandpass box and make it go really low so you can shake your house during movies.

Justin is right. Ported is a better option at home since you don't have the gain that a car environment offers you. With a ported box, you can get flat response down to the tuning frequency.

yep theres an 8,000 dollar home sub thats sealed. also mine in my apartment is sealed but ill be making a bandpass for it pretty soon.
