I just purchased one of the last remaining units, and am quite impressed with it sound-quality. Since I am of the "less-is-better" persuation and wanted a no-frills single CD SQ unit seemed to fit my requirements, I've always been a big fan of nak's quality, starting with my first system consisting of a ADS PowerPlate 100, ADS 300I speakers and a Nak 350 portable tape deck (in 1980!!). Later I moved up to a TD-1200 (a Dragon with auto azimuth)

I've been involved in IASCA SQ competition since 1986, and have always believed that the less links in the signal chain, the better the sound.


And now that, someone stole my Nak CD/Tuner1/MF-51 CD changer, it was an opportunity to upgrade. some people don't believe that source units matter that much; but with the CD700II, I disagree.

Among it's features are:
-an ergonomically great feeling 4-gang potentiometer
-defeatable balance and tone controls
-5V output
-improved stronger magnetic frictionless CD handling for lower jitter
-a rigid aluminum faceplate and heavy-duty shielding around
-digital inputs/outputs (so I can add my Sony D8 DAT portable--no iPod for me!!)

A have a simple 6 speaker system, and I can honestly attest to the improved imaging (especially with the defeatable balance/tone controls).

It's a shame that there are few manyfacturers making ultra-high-end single CD head units (like Alpine's F#1). Nak stopped producing this unit, and that's a disheartening.

I can also the Audio Alchemey DTI Pro 32 where there is a optical output for the CD700II. And then using the AA S/PDIF of the out put on the DTI pro32 with an AA powered transmitter/receiver, which can convert S/PDIF to optical, changing impedance from 75 ohm or 110ohm (AES/EBU). This works to loop into the Nak HU deck. Now that pro devices are coming down to commercial applications.
