Amp suggestions

Post by Z71Zak »

My friend is planning on getting 2 15" Kicker L7 subs. He does not know which amp(s) to get. Which amp would you suggest, and how much power should the amp(s) be?

First, if im not mistaken the RMS of L7 is 1000. We need to know what the VC config is going to be also. What type of box is he planning on putting them in too. Second, if he hasn't bought them yet I would suggest looking into something else. I know of quite a few people who ran the L7 and were not very impressed by it. Plus I have heard a few things about there durability.

DO your friend a favor and tell him to pass on the L7's...as previously mentioned.

I have experience with them. I have sent 4 back to kicker b/c they have blown. This last pair i had, one of them the v.c.'s fried. The second one of the pair, one of the tinsel leads broke. You can get a lot more for a lot less money.
Plus, he would need a huge alternator and possibly a second battery to keep up with the power demands if he seriously wanted to push a true 2000 watts, which would probably kill the L7's.

^^^ that right there should make you want to pass those up. If he is looking for just SPL look into Digital Design subs. They are mainly SPL subs and can handle anything. I suggest you list how much he wants to spend, and what kinda music he listens to ETC.
We could help you a lot more. I go ahead and rep RE Audio, The SX series will fit him well. If he was going to run 2000rms, two 15 SX's or bump up and get 18's :)

Tell us his taste, and we will guide you like a naked Indian...Well the one from Waynes World
