College
I'm not sure if this is where I should be posting this, but I've come to a great conclusion today. I've realized that I want to specialize in electronics. Car audio has interested me ever since my brother let me sit in his rediculously shaking car when I was 10. I'm 17 now and a senior in high school. I've had many ideas of what to do but I thought that there is no where better to go than here (my most trustworthy and knowledgable forum) to ask for reference. Now for the main question.
What is the best path of knowledge that I should go if I want to be a professional in electronics.
I know some of you have went to college, if not most of you. I have good grades and can get into most average colleges. I want to design, engineer, or fix amplifiers, speakers, receivers, etc. I've worked in a collision shop for a few years. Working for my parents at their car dealership. I want to learn everything. The last thing I want is to be working in a shop all my life; so I've ruled out most community and tech schools.
I'd like no ones opinion more than all of your's. Thank you very much.

kettering university up in michigan, where i go. Its a top egineering school, in the same group as cal tech and MIT and such. I love it because of it co-op program, where you go to school for 3 months, then you go to work for 3 months at a job in your respective field. You have to get the job yourself but plenty of people at the school are willing to help you find one. Im working for Venture industries, a tier one automotive supplier for GM, DC, and Ford. If you wanna do engineering, especially electrical or mechical ( Im an ME ), its worth taking a look at.

One of our Quality Engineers graduated from there...
As far as electronics go...
I would goto a community college to get the basic classes. Maybe even a "certificate" for said class. Then transfer to a four year college.
Do it now while your young and keep your thing in your pants... Wish i would of went that route long ago... To late for me, but learn from it!

Im co-oping at venture industries in sterling heights michigan. And ya, it is expensive, but for one, your making good money while in college and getting experience in your field, and two, most graduates get offers from their employers to get hired on full time as soon as they graduate. Not many other college students have a good full time job waiting for them as soon as they graduate.Bwcad1 wrote:we have a lot of co-ops come from kettering here at mtd where are you co-oping? kettering is uber expensive to for bein in flint do you know matt bosway or clint montgomery?
