how does this plot look

i was messing around with my probox program and i did three differnt boxes. and i was wondering if the box that made the line go way up was really good?

If you're tuned between 35 and 90... but at 30 you're losing.

peaks at 45-65Hz. it'll sound like any bandpass box at bestbuy.
I'd use that nice flat one that drops off at about 25Hz. that'd be the most neutral enclosure.

kinda depends on the customer.....some people dig a bandpass, im one of them in certain cars or applications i have built two bandpass systems in small trucks one ranger and one s-10 and i built one in an 89 lebaron just to get the sound in the cabin and did the same for a guy with an older sentra once. bandpass can sound really good. if the guy wants one kinda play with the gain of the enclosure, sometimes you can get a really good response if you go like -3db instead of trying to pump up the gain of the enclosure.....

if you use a 4th order box at -3dB you'll get a flat response, but why bother? just go sealed or ported at that point. you just gave up the only reason for 4th order boxes. lots of gain at their tuned frequency.. which leads to their problem. one-note wonders.
not the sort of thing I want.. I hate it when one note hits so hard the car shakes, then the next note hits and you can barely hear it because you just went past that narrow spot where the box works well. The one good thing about bandpass boxes is their efficiency at tuned frequency, and for SPL events, a 6th order box is the way to go with some speakers. What he wants is up to him though. All I did was tell him how it'll sound and which would be flattest/best for SQ.

actually the one that starts rolling off at 50Hz would be the flattest, if that graph doesn't account for cabin gain.. if it does, then I'd go with my first choice.

I don't have his software so I haven't played with it to see how it works

the one that rolls off at around 50 is a sealed box at about 1.4 cubes if i remeber correctly. the one that has the flattest response is a 4.46 cubes tuned to 21.76hz using a round 3.5" port. the program is probox 5.0 i dont know how good it is but it is pretty cheap. the sub is an elevation audio pro12

the sealed box is 1.98 cubes. and i dont think it takes in account for cabin gain

im not arguing that point but like i said there are times when it is your best bet.......

I'm still waiting to hear one of those times :)

6th order is more efficient for SPL events, sealed is more accurate, flat, and transparent, and just going ported gives a more musical response with a boost of around 3 to 5 decibels.

anyway the software does not account for cabin gain, now that he mentioned which plots were for what. you'd see a flat line for the sealed box, and a spike at lower frequency for ported if it did account for environment.
this is one reason I don't like relying on software. it can be misleading when you build a box. no substitute for experience there.
