Speaker Installation

Post by captain_fink »

Just got a '93 F150 XLT Extended Cab. Its in awesome shape, and I'm trying not to screw it up as I move my 'system'(just a deck and speakers) over from my last vehicle. Any suggestions on how to tear apart the door to get to the speakers? I haven't looked really hard, but its not terribly obvious. Or should I just go to Napa and get a new set of door panel fasteners and take the whole panel off?

Thanks.

you can take a flat head screw driver and Carefully pop the door panel off the door, there are some push pins that keep the door panel fastened to the door(not specifically talking about your truck, but usually), you can either try that, or buy a panel popper, which is pretty cheap..

Thats what I thought. It should be 6.5" speakers in the doors, and 6x8" in the rear of the cab. I've got a pair of Pioneer 6.5 that I'll replace the stock door speakers with, how bad will sq be hurt running the stock speakers in the rear? I've got a pair of 5.25 clarion's I could get a mount made for and put in the back, or I could go buy a pair of 6x8's. I'm not terribly interested in blowing my ears out, just listening to CD's and XM while I drive.

Honestly I would disconect the rears and leave then that way. I am not a fan of rear speakers, especially in a truck. If you look in the FAQ section there is a great articale about rear speakers, and cone shapes (round vs oval). If you read those and still have any questions let us know.

I have a Dodge Ram and they came with whimppy 4 inch speakers in the back and i decided a long time ago that they sounded bad... I agree with Jeremy on the taking them out, but i would also like to suggest perhaps relocating them... U said you have a ford Ranger is it a standard cab or is it extended. I made speaker mounts for mine dead center at head height and iven never been happier :)

Got the 6.5's mounted in the doors and the plates to mount the 5.25's in the back. They're pretty solid plastic and I'm going to fade it heavily towards the front anyways, so it shouldn't make a difference. Thank god for power windows, no more being too cheap to buy a window crank clip remover and fighting with the stupid thing for 20 minutes. And the XM is here... with only about 6 inches of exposed wire when I'm done putting the dash back together. =]
