Hows this done?

Post by daykareboards »

My buddy hooked up an old RF amp in his room to power some extra sub he had sitting around. He wont show me how he did it... he take power from the wall and splice wires or something? the sterio sounds like crap so it isnt something i'd think of doing, but it interested me none the less.

You have to get an AC->DC power inverter. If you want one that will supply enough current to run a decent sized amp it's gonna cost you. Like you said thought it sounds like crap most of the time.

It does cost butt-loads of money just to power any amplifier, much less a head unit. You'd be best off just using a car battery. FAR cheaper but you do have to wait for one to recharge fully before using again.

If you really insist on doing something like this just get a sealed deep cycle battery (ie Optima Yellow Top) and a trickle down battery charger. You could run a decent sized amp off of it for a while. But for the money it'd cost to buy the battery and charger, you could get a home audio plate amplifier to power your subs.
