Whining noise

Post by 88gtman »

I was wondering, if you were to run your remote wire on the same side of you car as your RCA's could it cause alternator whine to be heard through you speakers?

I don't think so. It might if you ran your power wire along side your RCA's though.

Just keep the power wire on the opposite side of the RCA's and Remote wire.

So yes its fine to run the RCA's and Remote wire on the same side of the car.

The remote wire's current is so low that you really don't need to worry about it as long as you have a half-way decent wire shielding on it.

Infact some rca's even come with the remote-wire "built" right along side of them.

And Richard Clark claims that in practice running RCA's next to power wires isn't really a problem.

Although RC seems to love his roll as "myth buster" I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.

:D

its funny, i ended up running my 4GA power wire, remote turn on AND left speaker wire all on the left side and i have no problem whatsoever with alternator whine. i guess it all depends on the wiring?

I have all of my wires running down one side of my van. I have had no problem at all. The only time I had alternator whine is when I had this cheap Pioneer amp. After a few weeks, it went away and never came back. Crazy.

Its a mix between what voltage the output is in the rca, the higher the voltage the lower the noise floor. Its also how well everything is grounded. If you check everything and you still have noise, put in ground loop isolators.
