Which Would Be The Best Option?

Okay guys... Heres the deal...

I am currently running (well I am going to be running - its not installed yet) one 12" Kicker CompVR in a 1.25 cubic inch pre-fab sealed box. Now I always hear everyone saying that no matter whether you have trash subs or compete super subs, it all depends on install. So my question to you is:

If I were to get my hands on a good sub, such as a 15" Avalanche or 15" Lethal Injection, what would you recommend me to do:

1. Sell the new sub and buy a complete custom, ported box made to the exact specifications of a 12" Kicker CompVR from http://www.caraudiobox.com for about $200 shipped
2. Sell the new sub and buy another Kicker CVR and throw both into a prefab ported box
3. Sell the Kicker CVR and its current box and throw the new sub into a prefab ported box

Obviously, I am not going to get my hands on a super sub out of nowhere. But if I were to, what would you suggest (This will help me with my plans for the future). If it were to happen, these would basically be my only options when taking money into account...

I guess im really trying to find out if its more worth it to pay for the perfect box and a entry level sub, or a high level sub with a entry level box....

How are you selling the new sub? I'm confused here. Do you already have something other than the CVR?

The CVR is a very capable woofer... and in the proper (cough cough lol) ported box it will outperform any of the other options in a prefab box.

Perhaps its just me... but the avalanch just doesn't sound all that great. I like the atlas much more, its just that the atlas can't handle power worth a dam.

On the same note.. I don't know of a prefab ported box that the CVR will even sound mediocre in, it demands a larger box than any prefab will be.

And on that note again, the one ported CVR will outperform the 2 sealed by a nice margin... as I tested it, 4db with a nice gain in SQ... of course until the sub reaches its limits, but a 140 sounded much better with the ported box than it did with the 2 sealed 12's, which did a 139.8. That 139.8 was nasty, while the 144.5 was nasty with the ported one, but it was way the hell louder and more than you'd really want just cruisin around

using one amp for both subs @ say 2 ohms, to one sub at say 4 ohms means half the power so -3dB again.
When you went from two sealed, to one ported, did you increase power to that one sub? what kind of vehicle was it? cabin cain could factor into that jump in output, but if a box is tuned low for good SQ, you generally only get about a +3dB gain going sealed to ported.

the 2 were actually getting more power now that you ask.

Amp at .5 ohm while the one sub was at 1 ohm.

The sealed boxes were the "best" i narrowed it down to, which happens to be 1.25 cubes (lol).

The ported box was tuned to 30hz.

You *typically* gain about 2-3db with an "sq" tune... but since the box had a bunch of little upgrades + it was just a good design... it really adds up in the end... BIG jump from one sealed to one ported, night and day. With 2 sealed and 1 ported you could still notice the difference in SPL, but the most noticeable was in high volume SQ. Like I said above, 140 with the ported box is easy, 140 with the 2 sealed sounded like arse.

If I can find the pics I'll post em up... but it was more of a objective lets get a number on these 2 setups than lets sit in the car for an hour with each setup and listen to music. Each setup got approx 5-10 minutes of play time + some SPL fiddling to get the most out of em... of course I kept the ported box in the car and cruised around with it - but i dont consider that "critical listening".
