LS1 Silverado

Post by swimmerdude »

So I haven't been much into the whole car audio scene lately because I have switched over to the whole go fast scene. I guess it happens, right? My truck started out with a 4.8 and it now has a 5.7 LS1 with a lil bit.

Here's a list of everything done.
Stock '98 bottom end
Custom grind Comp Cam, 214/220 .559/.564 lift
PAC racing beehive springs
Texas Speed hardened pushrods
2001 LS6 heads
Truck style intake manifold
LS6 oil pump
LS2 heavy duty timing chain

For the trans.... at first it was only going to be a re-worked stall converter. But it turned into a converter and freshened up trans.

2000 Stall Converter - Modified 11" converter
4L60E with
7 pack clutch pack (instead of 6)
Alto red wide band
Corvette 1-2 servo, Billet 4th servo
Transgo Shift Kit
Some other small things but I don't remember

After the truck got tuned, it laid down 350hp and 350 tq. Torque was pretty flat from 3500 on up.

Here are some pics that my dad took during the swap.

Oh its a world of a difference!! Especially when you hear the tires making noise at 40mph.

And trust me.... everyone on the truck sites will say go with the 6.0 but i didn't. I couldn't find a 6.0 for as cheap as i got the LS1 and its an aluminum block vs. iron, so what the heck.

Auto's are more consistant at the drag strip.

Of course a 6 speed would of been bad @ss, but theres nothing wrong with the auto either.

The LS1 is an awesome engine no doubt, you really can't go wrong with it.

How much does that truck weight? Does it have a l/s rearend? What are you expecting it to run in the 1/4?

What did you do with your stock engine? 4.8 or 5.3? You could put it on v8s10.org and fetch some pretty good money for it I bet. :)

The reasons are exactly what MobileAudio said. Auto's are more consistant. And really I didn't have the money to pay for a trans swap. I wasn't planning on spending the money for my trans to get beefed up but the local guy who did it hooked me up. So if i had another 1500 or something like that for a nice clutch and manual trans, then yea it would have it!

As far as rear end, it is GM's G80 rear end.... which as far as I know is GM's nicer rear end for the 10 bolt.

My old motor is sitting in my brothers garage. I was supposed to be selling it to some guy I know who was tricking out an S10.

And insurance didn't go up.... as far as they know its just a v8 Silverado.
