Corian sealed sub box HELP!

Post by sheabyrd1221 »

So I am here asking for help from some of you gurus here. I want to build a sealed sub box for my 12" brahma out of corian due to the almost complete resonance free environment it provides and the bad A$$ look it will give me. I have never attempted anything like this before and am completely ignorant on how to use this medium. Has any 1 done it, know of any body? Advice: does and dont's? 2cf size. :bow

Hmmmm

Isnt this like counter top material? Isnt it brittle?

If it is what I think it is, it wont work. It will crack.

corian should be pretty cool, the only problem i think youll have is gluing it together, id try liquid nails and clamp it for 24-48 hours. the nice thing about corian is you sand the edges and get a seamless look

Well it is counter top material but it will be 1/2 thick with a bracing system of some sort (haven't figured that out yet). I work at home depot and this stuff is actually really strong. I just need some direction before I jump into this and spend 300 bones on material. If I make a thin MDF box and cover it with this stuff will I sill get the deadness of the material or will it still resonate somewhat. Should it be solid corian for better performance? (SQ I mean) I want this system to be as un-colored as possible. I am an audiophile not an SPL guy.

good god, 300 bucks on a box in material alone?? I'd rather just have 1.5" of birch ply throughout the box, would be just as strong if braced.

Corian will work. You can cut it with wood working tools as well.

The tough part is going to be bonding it.

the question I would be asking is what audio components will you be using because if you put a $50 audiobahn sub in a $300 box its still a POS sub.

Well I did state before a 12" Brahma is what I will be loading it with they don't get much more SQ than that. I do have an Adire 15" Tumult but I want quality more than quantity for this build. Also to turn heads when they see the box. I think I have a good handle on how to make this build after talking with an installer who came by our store. After I get the materials I might start an new thread on the actual build and post some pics. Again if any one has done this or attempted to build a box like this before please post and let me know how it went.

I would build the box with 3/4" MDF with a double baffle front then just put this material over it.

That will make it STRONG and look good.
