first of all, Ryan didn't write the entire list. He just transposed it from our previous site, and has helped to maintain it.
There's been no fight here over that list, and if there's a fight about it somewhere else, that's another site's problem.
Planet audio is ranked where it is because the brand is a part of BOSS Audio, who makes cheap, low end, improperly rated products with high failure rates.
I'm glad you've had better luck than some with PA's products, but one person's experience doesn't outweigh that of many others. Your experience will be considered though in future revisions of the list. Thanks for submitting your thoughts.
The list is subjective, and not everybody will agree with everything there.
A differing opinion on one product however, doesn't make the entire list "fubar" and if you disagree so strongly with that list of products, you're always welcome to write your own list of recommended brands for another website or even for submission to this site.
A lot of work went into compiling that list, and a lot fo experience by industry professionals is represented therein. The FAQ section is only visible to members of this board however, so I don't see why it's being debated somewhere else. If people want to use, discuss, or share the FAQ threads from this board, they are welcome to join this forum to do so. The contents of that thread, and all of this board are protected by copyright and thus should not be posted anywhere else without express written consent of the author, and the owners of this site.
If I recall, PA is ranked as questionable, which means exactly that. Maybe ok, maybe not. Better to ask or research yourself.
Now, in the future if you want to be given any sort of credibility and wish to be heard or given any weight to your opinions, try using a real handle instead of one designed to attack this forum. You won't gain any respect by signing up here strictly to attack people then run away like a child or a terrorist.

"These are some pretty generalized groupings and also very subjective. We've simply based our experiences with the products whether they are direct installs, personal property or extensive research. You should always physically listen to a product before purchase because you are the one who will determine whether or not an item "sounds good" or not.
This topic, while being controversial, is simply a generalized guide meant for beginners in the hobby. Many brands specialize in certain items, ie. better amplifiers than speakers, better mids than subs, etc... Also almost all manufacturers offer entry level products as well as high quality lines. As I stated before, this is a GENERALIZED guide. It is your responsiblity to research and audition every brand before you purchase anything. Good luck with your decisions."
That is a direct quote from the top of the list. It is merly the opinions of a few people on this forum. I honestly beleive Boston Acoustic should be higher than it is on the list. Yet I also understand that the list is someones opinion, and they might have had a bad experiance, were I had a very good one.
The reason the disagrement came about was the time and effort put into the list. The moderators of this forum have spent hours putting together what I would consider "one of the best librarys of knowledge on the internet". So it was natural we would be upset someone had taken it, without giving them the credit they deserved.

i just wanted a quick response i guess.. so i wanted something that would grab attention :excited: .... not attacking..
i understand the boss thing.. however i believe the quality on PA's stuff far exceeds alot of the mainstream brands that you listed above them... what bad experiences have you had/heard of... i did alot of research before i went with them and after i've had such great sucess with them i've pushed them on most of my friends and they can't say a bad word about them... the only drawback i could give them would be their zetar series amp.. its a 1000 watt+ current hungry 2 channel with un-regulated power supplies and if you drop the voltage too many times they'll burn themselves up..

unregulated power supplies do have their advantages. my Orion amps are all unregulated and as a result, using a high output alternator with a voltage regulator set to 14.4 volts gives a healthier output than at 12 volts, though granted, the difference isn't that large.. 1000 watts versus 1280 watts at full output going from 12 to 14.4VDC.
A regulated power supply helps mask the symptoms of a weak charging system which is handy, and a regulated supply also allows near-double the output of the amp at half the load, but the drawback comes in the form of efficiency. the power supply isn't as efficient as an unregulated supply so your total output will be lower. It's really a trade off, like in all things, in this case between stability of output and total power output. Neither design is superior, unless chosen for a specific application of goal in mind. There are pros and cons to both.
BOSS and PA both support their warranty coverage well, in spite of the quality issues associated with BOSS's products. I can say that having seen them replace blown amplifiers for people without hesitation. That's a good thing, particularly if money is tight for someone doing entry level systems. BOSS even has a few amps I've seen good results with, like their PD-4000, but the problem then comes from knowing exactly what's good and what isn't. Without keeping a list of every product they've ever released along with if it's any good, if becomes easier just to say "it's all questionable, and ask if there's a specific model you are considering." Then we can all give thoughts on something if somebody asks, which is what we do most of the time anyway.
The list was just created to to help quiet a bit of the flood of people asking about a lot of the same items.. especially the real trash, like legacy, pyramid, rockwood, and all of that. the $20 products people think can replace spending the money for something decently made.
That aside, I'd be glad to see you sign up with a real handle or name, fill out a profile, and join us.
You seem to have some good experience, and plenty to share. We'd be happy to have you as an asset to our community.
welcome to CAC

i don't want to make it like i'm beating a dead horse here but you talked just about boss... you have yet to give me any drawbacks on the PA amplifiers... boss amps and PA amps are different.. especially the higher end PA series .. Ie: apocolypse, and titan..... i would be willing to give my input on resolving a few issues associated with the list.. i think you'll gain alot more respect if you change a few holes in the list..

I've had to replace some PA amps that failed, but that's something that's hard to mark up to the amp and not owner abuse or poor installation technique since I wasn't the initial installer, and the amps were the property of the car owners so I didn't get to open them up to see what happened forensically speaking.
you're always welcome to share your thoughts about improvements to anything to do with this community, including that FAQ thread. In part, you have to realize that myself and others who contribute to authorship here have jobs too though, and what time we do put into writing these FAQs is limited, and done out of an ernest intent to help others and share what we've learned.
I look forward to your suggestions.

The list was created so long ago I cant remember who even started it?
Seriously that list has been on the net for over 4years and has been continually updated.
Its truely a collective work.

You dont have to spend $10 for your opinion on the list to be heard.
To break the list down even into them areas is hard.
As you can see, where duly fit we have done this to an extent.
Its just to much work. Especially every year when a product line changes :)
