How has the weaken economy effected you?
The economy is weakend. Gas prices are high. What effect does it have on your everyday lives?
That's the question.
Rather your a small business owner or just a consumer, I'd like to hear what effects of the weakening economy and the high gas prices has had on you and your family.
Other than the gas prices it hasn't really effected me. The job market in my area isnt to bad. If the gas prices would drop to about $2.00-$2.50 a gallon and stay there the economy in my area would be pretty damn strong.
I know that different area's are feeling the effects much worse then we are, so I just thought I'd ask...

The gas prices are dropping fast here. I saw $2.99 a gallon yesterday.
Honestly, the prices haven't really affected us that much. I am 10 minutes at most away from work, but now that we have a 2nd house that is about 30 miles away, gas is starting to matter. I always try to get the best mpg I can normally, even before the prices jumped up.

things dropped off a bit for a while but i just added more services and it picked right back up again. started doing auto glass and some collision repair...nothing big but fender benders and stuff like that, i can lay paint and do the work so why not make a few bucks with my god given talents...lol. really though ky is a state that by law your insurance company must waive your deductible so everyone gets free glass courtesy of your insurance company. i did auto glass for about 4 years so i just added it to my advertising and bam....instant flow of business....i been doing about 1-1200.00 a week additional just in auto glass.....
as far as gas goes, eh, its down to about 2.85 a gallon here most places but honestly if it was 10.00 a gallon i love driving so much i wouldnt stop...first and second gear in my car are a blast and getting my car a little sideways is my best release of frustration at the end of the day...

Hey Terry, I might be picking up another fox body within the next week. The guy blow the engine and dont want to mess with it. I might end up trading my ranger for it (ehh, I only have about 450-500 bucks into it) and building a mild 5.0 for it...smoker wrote:first and second gear in my car are a blast and getting my car a little sideways is my best release of frustration at the end of the day...
If I get the car I'll pm you before I go up to get a motor for it, if you're ready for the heads and intake I can get them then, the heads are 30-35 each side and the intake is 35-40 depending on where I go, so roughly 100-120 bucks plus shipping...

Well for us...
We dont goto the stores as much. We used to goto the stores 2-4 times a week and thats down to about once.
Groceries are every 2-3 weeks anymore. Except for pop, milk and bread.
Eating out... Before we would spend about $100-$150 a week eating out. Now its down to under $40. Thats usyally 1 decent meal and 1-2 fast foods- if...
Movies. Used to goto the movies almost every week. Now its maybe once a month,

Well let's see... I own 2 small businesses; One doing automotive accessories and surprisingly enough that one has actually picked up as most seem to be putting money into the vehicles they have now verses going out and buying new (or newer) vehicles.
The other business is Housekeeping/ Handyman and we've definitely seen a decline there as most households that are making cutbacks are getting rid of the housekeeper as one of the first cuts... On the flip side though, we have been working for a small property company and have picked up on painting jobs and vacant apartment cleanup.
As for the price of gas... We've had it floating around $2.70- 2.80 a gallon here lately which is a huge relief when you own a business where driving is key, so that helps out a little.
And Terry, you know you can use that Auto-Air Color paints now to do a whole car with no booth... I think an airbrush is going to be in my future to help pick up some bike (and possibly scooter) business next spring.
