Stupid Issues

O.K. kinda sad I started this to begin with... and it seems to have takin a wrong turn somewhere as to smoking being bad or good.
Smoking is bad... No arguements there.

What I was trying to point out more than anything else is that it should be the owner of the establishments rights, not the people that go there... smokers or non-smokers.

It's kinda like buying a new house in a development that will not allow you to build a shed (and yes, there are some). If you really want a shed, then you won't buy/build a house there.

And to answer your question Ryan, smoking will not be allowed within 10 feet of any public entrance or any walkway that is in the direct path of the entrance.

I personally think that too many people were confused when going to the polls and voted "NO" on both smoking bans and that's why issue 5 (the total smoking ban) passed. Issue 4 required restaurants and like establishments to provide SEPARATE areas or times for smokers that would not contaminate the non-smokers air or post that it is a smoking establishment at the entrances. This is why I voted yes on 4... It still kept the rights of the business owners intact.

do you honestly believe that vehicle emissions have not improved over the years? sure older vehicles were bigger in some cases, but they also weighed more and had poor fuel management compared to today and the power/weight ratio was worse

I never said that earlier cars were more fuel efficient. I said they could more readily carry more people, and thus produce less emissions per person as a whole.
Also, you were mistaken in one small aspect. Older cars were lighter than new ones for the main reason of a lack of modern safety devices like crumple zones, ABS, air bags, electronics, and so forth. a 57 Chevy Bel Air is 3200lbs. A Mitsubishi 3000GT is 3995lbs. just an example. It's a common misconception that older cars were whale-heavy though.

As do a lot of laws passed by liberals. They love large government. This is really one reason I'm conservative. I think governmentshould work from the bottom up. People should handle what they can. After that, it's up to the local gov't, and what local can't reasonably do, they give to the state, and only after that does the federal gov't get to step in.

if they wanted to limit the amount of time you could spend on the road in your car id be the first one to say it wasnt right.

submitted for your amusement, google New Jersey laws on classic car registration and license plate classes for classics/antiques. and collector cars.
They basically make it so the only way you can own a classic is if it's driven to shows only, and never for personal use. In effect, what you mentioned is already enacted in some states, which is why I researched thoroughly on the states I've looked at moving to in regards to their laws on classics.

but honestly this kind of "we arent responsible for our own actions" attitude is the reason plastic bags carry warning labels not to let small children play with them or why sunshades for your windshield say to remove before driving....its common sense.

I think this is our main difference of view. I see smoking in public as a proliferative problem that affects everybody around the smoker, not just that person. The difference, in short, is that people don't go around a park stuffing plastic bags over childrens' heads, whereas simply walking past them with a lit sigarette subjects them to the same dangers as the one with the cigarette. Granted if there was such a park, I'd save all my plastic bags and go on picnics there.

oh and btw, i wasnt being "snippy"....your just upset because i suggested you like to discipline little boys...........

PS law suit implies civil prosecution. That'd be a criminal subpoena if it was for someone underaged.

well i guess what glass is trying to say, is that hes right, everyone else is now and always will be wrong...unless of course you think hes is right, then youd always be right by proxy.....not based on your intellect or the forming of your own thoughts, just by agreeing with him you can increase your IQ by twofold.....

I wish I knew this YEARS ago! All this studying and taking classes to become smarter. Pfft! I did it the hard way!

In one of the towns not too far from here. They have a smoking law for resteraunts that say either they have to have a smoking area seperated by walls and solid doors from the rest of the resteraunt and have seperate ventalation or it's no smoking... I don't think this is too unfair but it did cause most resteraunts to drop smoking all together just to avoid the remodeling costs... me personally I don't care much. I smoke but I do everything in my power to ensure my children a smoke free environment. I don't smoke in my cars when the kids are with me. I don't smoke in my house and if we are at a resteraunt say with my parents even though my dad may light up at the table I still step outside to smoke. I do this also year round. I don't care how cold, rainy, tornado infested it may be outside my children's health means more to me than that. Just my little bit... Not much but there you go. :P

sad thing is I don't even know what were talking about anymore I just wanted to gain more IQ so I agreed anyways.

I agree with the law, and thats all Im going to say...

Other than that I'm surpised that this hasnt gotten nastier than what it has, its nice to see we can have discussions like adults rather than bickering like children...
