Did anybody see that Ohio had to separate smoking bans on the ballot this year?
Issues 4 and 5
Issue 4: supported by the tobacco industry (yes), but was what they called the common sense smoking ban. This kept the ability of choice in the business owners hands (i.e. restaurants, bars, pool halls, bowling alleys, etc.).
Issue 5: Flat out smoking ban in all public places (all of the above mentioned).
Issue 5 passed yesterday by a slim margin, and honestly I don't think most people were thinking ahead.
Some time ago the city of Toledo tryed a smoking ban and a lot of small business lost business and some closed entirely, and now it's going state wide. Everyone I spoke with about issue 5 said "I feel so sorry for the people that have to work in those smoke filled environments." with little knowledge of what is about to happen... now you won't have to worry about them being in the smoke filled environment at work, cause they'll be out of a job.
How do I know this is going to happen you ask?
Well my wife, daughter, son in law, and I are on a bowling league...
or should I say were on a bowling league, because now that we won't be able to smoke there we are dropping out, and I'm sure that many others will too as 99+% of our league are smokers. What about the non-smokers you ask, cause you're sure they like bowling too and now will have the ability. Our bowling alley has always had times available everyweek when the entire place (with the exception of the bar that is in a separate room) is non-smoking for kids leagues and non smoking leagues.
Now I really feel sorry for all the people that worked in those places.
By the way I don't endorse smoking... It is a bad habit that shouldn't be started.
And my daughter and son in law are actually not just dropping 1 league of bowling like us. They bowl on 3 different leagues and are dropping all 3.
