yeah.. it looks like it may be a little weak though. if someone were to break into my house or try and break into my car,, i want to be able to blow a 6" hole through their chest, as i am legally able to do so in my state.

edit: the statement above came from someone who knows nothing about guns :)

i can't buy a revolver.. or any handgun until i'm 21. but i'm positive i can have a shotgun at 18. thats a nice ass gun though.

and technically, i could get a hand gun. it'd just be an illegal gun that's probably hot.

I've only been to one place so far today, but I think I might be expanding my budget. I REALLY like the Rugar Deerfield (.44 mag auto). They wanted $570 for it.

The cheapest bolt action was a Mossberg. I thought it was okay, but I think it would be worth it to find something better.

Off to more shopping, I go...

I've hunted most of my life and I've also been a guild for American hunters a few times so I had the chance to shoot a few different rifles. I own a 7mm mag. M77 Ruger and it's never failed me, it actualy saved my life when a black bear tried to attack me. This is what it looks like but mine has a scope on it plus it's a different year and the light weight version so it has Ruger stamped in to the butt end of the rifle and it's much less plain.

I've taken down bears, wolves, deer, moose, coyotes, etc. and it's deffinatley large enough for boar. It's an all around rifle because you have such a wide variety of bullet grains to choose from. The 7mm can have a very suttle kick or it can nearly dislocate your shoulder depending on the grain size you choose.
I've shot many different sized rifles such as 300mag. very large grained rifle meant for large game. 375 H&H which is used for African hunts and will gut a deer for you but it's a little much and most hunters would shake their head at you for using something so big. 308 Norma which bruised my shoulder for over a week and will knock an elephant into tomorrow. 30-06 which is another great rifle with a wide variety of grains to chose from and you won't be disapointed with. 30-30 which is a fairly small rifle but will do the trick, I have owned one but it let me down on a few shots.

I've had a turn at many different calibers and I was most impressed by the 7mm mag., at 3000feet per second you can really reach out and smoke your prey at fair distances without destroying the meat. Of course if your using it for knock down power all you have to do is slide a 210 grain bullet in and you have yourself enough bang to rip your prey in half. I use a 175gr. bullet which is ideal for anything.

Does anyone know of a good site for gun laws in each state? I used to know of one...but forget what it was.

TIA

Go down to the bottom of the page and select your state. I'm Canadian so I'm not sure of your laws. http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/Default.aspx

I don't think I want to spend the extra money on that Ruger I liked. For me to get a Mississippi hunting license, it would cost $300 per year :-/, however, a Louisiana license would cost me $15, but I have 600 acres to hunt on in MS!!!

I've narrowed it down to a Remington Model 710 .270cal or a Savage Package Series 111FCXP3 .270cal

I'm leaning toward the Savage. It came pretty well recommended to me by a long term hunter.

Remington is a great brand and I can't find anything bad to say about them. I've seen a Savage in action and it was very high quality. You will not go wrong with any caliber of Savage guaranteed. What type of stock and barrel finish are you going with?
