dual core processors isn't like having 2 processors. i'm not 100% on this but i belive the processor can still only process one command at a time.

Actually a dual core processor is almost like having 2, allows for easier multi-task commands (i.e. surfing the web while printing from a different program at a much faster rate).

Which is what I really need as I will be working in cad while surfing the net and doing other things...

I will probably have at least 1 if not 2 cad programs running and Firefox open with probably 8-12 pages open on it...

Ryan, don't waste money on a new video card. If you are going to do anything, get a whole new system. I bet you could do well with $800 if you keep your existing monitor (and hard drive even).

I recommend the new Abit AM2 core processors and minimum 1 gig of ram.

I totally agree with William. This is why I was recommending the entire new system. Dual core, PCI Express graphics, etc, etc. The prices make it so worth it and this computer will last you (I feel) quite a bit longer than the old one.
I built the computer I'm on now 3 years ago and it's still playing the newest games that come out perfectly fine. I can run basically any application on it.

Most of the computer bundles I have been looking into all have onboard/shared video. So if I get one of them, Im going to want another video card asap, no shitty onboard? :)

So thats why I was just going to go with a new card for time being.

I do not have $800 for this at the moment. I do have around 600$ tops, so I think Im going to wait.

Also, I just talked with my my Grandma. It appears her sister in law has a laptop thats fairly new that mysteriously stopped working... I dont know whats the matter with it, I do know they are in their late 80's so maybe she forgot how to work it? Im hoping to be picking this up free tonight or tomorrow :D

One reason why you shouldn't buy a new graphics card is because all AGP and PCI ones have phased out. Everything now is PCI-e (pci express). You'd have a hard time selling it if you tried.

Definately get that laptop tho :)
