please use a crimp on butt connector, its much more secure of a connection than just twisting a wire and taping it.Scarrell wrote:also what i do is just cut the remote wire, strip it and twist the remote wire from the amp with the remote wire from the cd player, and put some electrical tape over and and voi-la!.

If i was to Use a wire Harness, do all specific car makes have custom harness's
usually it'll be like "84-89 Chevy and GM"
you can look it up by make/model though
http://www.metraonline.com makes the harnesses and fit kits.
- If i was to Use a Wire harness, do i just match the colours
no.
the radio has a manual that tells you which wire does what.
the harness package has the wiring color codes. you match by what each wire does.
ground, switched ign, memory, illum, rem, etc
- If i was to test and join wires directly to the deck how many wires are their to join. from what i know, correct me if im wrong
depends. usually:
constant +12
switched +12
ground
power antenna
illumination
dimmer
8 speaker wires at least (F/B/L/R pos and neg)
find ground first using continuity. then find memory, then switched power, then illum and dimmer. the rest should be audio yes.
just get the harness though. no cutting of wires, and you can replace the factory radio when you dump the car.
(I'm doing that now to sell the old jeep. spent today de-installing the stereo, radar detector, and fog lamps, and reinstalling the old factory systems)

wow, whats this radar detetor stuff?. are you talking about an in car radar detector.
Secondly. with KikitheCat's reply "find ground first using continuity. then find memory, then switched power, then illum and dimmer. the rest should be audio yes." Was wondering if i was testing each wire seprately how do i know properties of each wire, ie- memory has 12v constantly whilst car is on or Off. I know that i have to read manual and find the decks colour codes for what each wire does, but im talking bout the car's wiring.

yeah sorry, the electrical tape thing was just something i put. i had to hurry, but it does work.. but down the road and can come off and some other stuff can happen, anyway as Mith said(which i do use) you are better off doing that, or what Kiki said. and when i said color matching, sometimes the colors match but not always. which is why i said look in the manual. everything is stated in there....

I dont mean to sounds like a grump, but your making this much harder than it really is.
Buy your radio, fit kit and harness. Just match the wires between the harness and the Radio's harness.
Plug it in. That simple.

Bikola it really is simple like that, we are very happy to help you, dont get us wrong, but you are making it harder than it really is. if you are unsure of what to do, please go to a shop and have them do it, so you do not ruin your equipment. if this is your first time, take your time doing this and do as much research as you can before installing. the first time installing stuff is the harder part, but when you do it some more it gets pretty easy.
