yea jeremy you got something wrong there. there is no way a amp can see a 2 ohm load from a single 4 ohm sub.

I could be, but I would like to hear jonathon, glass, or golemon answer, before I admit defeat.

Bill I would agree if we were talking mono, but were not. We are talking about a 2 chanel amp bridged. Since your dividing the restance between 2 chanels the amp sees half the load.

i just dont see how a amp can have a 2 ohm load from a single 4 ohm sub? can you try elaborating that? but i guess that if you do bridge the amp that the coil would be split but then y do the manufactures not state that? its pretty confusing. either way impedance rise is going to change it anyways

Don't get me wrong here. The sub is still wired at 4 ohms, and if you test it with an ohm meter thats what you will see.

BUT

Your splitting that resistance between both sides of the amps output. For instance the right side + and the left side -.

Dang it. I can see it in my head, but I don't know all the details of how it works.

Lets let one of the electronic nerds break it down. I am sure they know the inner workings better than I do.

quote directly from bcae1.com

"Some people say that when an amplifier is bridged onto a 4 ohm load, it 'sees' a 2 ohm load. While it is true that the same current flows whether the amp is bridged on a 4 ohm load or a 2 ohm stereo load, the amplifier is driving a 4 ohm load across its outputs. A single 4 ohm speaker can never be a 2 ohm load."

So I can wire my 4 ohm sub bridged to a 2 channel amp? I was looking at the hifonics zeus zxi4006 which is rated at rms 400 X 1 @ 4 ohms bridged.Or will this amp be too much since my sub is rated at rms 350 watts and 1400 watts max peak power?

Baiscly what we have here is internal amp logistics being mixed with Laymens terms.

What Jeremy is saying is true, but that stuff is figured out and engineered behind the scenes...

Now if the amp says its capable bridged @ 4 Ohms then its safe to put a 4 Ohm sub to it.

If it was any other way it would have to be stated that way!

Now the way the electronics see it... well who cares... Its just confusing as we all just witnessed.

Yep, I was just pointing out what the amp sees, and trying to expand the knowledge here a little.

I would like to know how it works. Its another one of those I know it does, but not 100% sure why, or how. (please help old wise ones) (you can even PM me if you don't want to confuse everyone)
