Heard a set about 2 weeks ago. Still didn't like the way they sounded.

It has nothing to do with sound waves being round, thats a new one on me.

They get loud, their just not a musical sub. I don't like that wording, let me try again.

They are not a very detailed sub, and didn't seem to blend with the front stage. I know install has a lot to do with that, but even at low volume the music was missing detail, and dynamics. Especially when comparing them to a sub like a morel, focal or boston acoustic.

And yes bill I can tell the difference in subs, and the way they sound. Sure you give garry biggs a set of L7s he can make them sound amazing. To the point no one could tell a difference. But how many L7s have been installed or tuned by someone with his ability?

I know of 4 and they were all in the same car.

Well like I said It all comes down to price here as well as what will sound good for that price... I am not going to dump a whole lot of money into that car right now... and I cant put a huge box into it because i need the space... I have never had a 15 before though...

As far as what I have heard in the L5 and L7... I thought the L5 was crisper than the L7 but definitely lacked that oomph.. but I would want to utilize a 2.5- 2.75 cuft sealed box (yes sealed) Unless we can go with a smaller ported box option... Either way... I need to make it a small install with minimal crap in the way...

Take my bet lets see. ill install it and we both know that i dont have Gary Biggs sq ear. you are an exception to the rule because you are an sq fanatic. and L7's are not geared tword you. there for the typical guy who wants great output and over all good sound. i take your point about how many have been installed by the level and put that right back at you. how many people who have installed them actually know what your talking about? or how many of "them" could tell the diffrence.

You maybe able to tell but i gurantee you 98% of people on this board cannot.

Well Bill considering I probably can't tell the difference... what would u suggest then... The Lower output L5 Dual 4ohm and run it at 1100w or the L7 Dual 2 Ohm and run it at 1600w?

What is the smallest size box i could get away with either sealed or ported and still maintain some good bass and crispness?

Cappy, the sub is not K2 Power...I only gave 500 when it was new. It is a 33V2 dual 2ohm VC

It will handle 800 watts, will get down and dirty in the right ported box and musically, it is outstanding. It is NOT an SQL sub...it is an SQ sub...IOW...it won't shatter records, but your ears will love its output.

In a 2.77cf box sealed, I hit 132db. Not bad for sealed, and I had actually 900 watts to it. I am told that this woofer can hit about 138db in the right vented box with the same wattage. Like I said, it won't shatter the windows, but it will soften your heart to the ways of SQ.

Oh I c... Thats pretty nuts 132db on one 12? Thats pretty good. 2.77cuft sealed too huh? Hmmmmmmm Well to be honest... Thats plenty loud for me my truck hit 134 i think at the comp I went to with 2 12" pushing 800w each...

I will definitely take it into consideration when looking into possible purchases... If you want to shoot me a PM with a price that would be cool

BTW whats the difference between the v1 and v2?

ah i c... Yea i might overpower that sub though with the amp if I run dual 2... Damn Im so torn...

Joe your sub WILL sound the best, no doubt... But I don't know if I want to spend the money to purchase that... Im guessing around $275-300...

I just got done reading about some guy who had a 12" Kicker L7 in a 2 cuft vented enclosure and also had one in a sealed 2.75 and said the both sounded good with a good deal of power going to them... I have lots of options here...

I guess these are the 5 options I am looking into...

1. Focal 33V2
2. Wolfpack Audio Sub
3. Kicker L7
4. Alpine Type X either 10" or 12"
5. Kicker Comp VX 12

The kicker 12" L7 is rated at 750rms, the 15" L7 is rated at 1,000 rms.

I've heard a few different set-ups with the L7's, they didnt sound too bad. Honestly, from the sounds of it I think the L7's will suite him just fine.

I did a 135.2 with 2 12" cvrs and a jbl 600.1, but the box WAS HORRIBLE, way to freakin big. Then I sold the stuff to my cousin, built him a 4cuft box tuned to 35 hz, it was a good bit louder and sounded pretty dang good, and looked decent. We took it out to carpet it, and then somebody broke into the garage and stole the box, subs, and the kicker amp. They left the jbl amp, pioneer headunit, kicker components, a other stuff alone...

Image

The system consisted of:

Head unit: Panasonic CQ DF903U
Front stage: kicker k65.2 componets, mids in the doors, tweeters in the dash location.
Rearfill: stock, faded most of the way out.
Subs: 2 12" kicker comp vrs (4 cuft tuned to 35hz.)
Front stage amp: kicker 250.2
Sub amp: Jbl 600.1

It was my first install that I really put effort into. The others ones were decent, just not as clean.

It sounded really good for what it was.

Now were on the same page. Kicker has came a long way with them since they came out in 98 or 99. The failure rate has gotten better and they have worked out a lot of the problems with cone flex and failure that the first ones had.

I think more people could tell a diffrence, if they had a better system with proper tuning to use as a refrence.

But that bringe me to my next point. How many people that run kicker solos actually take the time to adjust phasing, time alignment and x-over points so they get a balanced FR, and relative phasing around the x-over points.

Without proper phasing at your x over points the front stage and subs are not going to blend togther. Causing the subs to be very easy to locate. Your also going to run into problems with your FR especially if your x-overs aren't spaced and sloped properly. Screwy FR can cause the subs to sound muddy, especially if the peak is amplified by the cabin gain of the car (a problem I had with my W7).

So yes I can agree with you, they are a decent sub for the average listiner. But most people, given a chance to listen to a better refrence system could tell a diffrence, especially if the L7s were not properly tuned.

EDIT: Hey CP my original comment about you liking the way they sound was a joke, but I'm still willing to debate system tuning and SQ if anyone is interested.
