Mount Amp on Metal plate?

Post by jjohan35 »

Hi,

I've read various reports on this with conflicting opinion. Some say it's bad to drill screws into a metal part of the car when attaching the amp. Others say it's perfectly fine to attach the amp to something metal. So what's the real deal? I want to attach my amp to the back of my rear backseat that folds down, but the backside is a thick sheet of metal. Not sure what to do since I want to keep all the expensive stuff in the trunk.

thanks for any help.

The back of the seat is fine, just make sure you know what your drilling into, and whats under / behind it.

You can mount it there without a problem ;)
If you're still concerned that much by all the naysayers then just go get some rubber washers to put inbetween the amp and the plate on the back of the seat... Probably wouldn't be that bad of an idea anyway since it will help secure the screws from any vibrations.

I think it would be fine. Just remember that you might also be compromising your resale value as well. I 2nd the rubber washers for vibration resistance. Plus, it'll really make those screws stick well. If at all possible, go for nuts and bolts.
