IPOD problems

Hey does anyone know how to clean the scratches off of an IPOD? Can you use a cd cleaner? Also why does my IPOD not sound as good as a cd in my car audio? i have a 5th gen 60 gig IPOD

it depends on the quality you rip them at. if you rip them at 32kbps you loose quality as apposed to 192 which i believe is cd quaility.

i usually rip at 320 kbps stereo not joint stereo

I thought 128 was the standard....and it doesn't matter because no matter what song it is, still sounds "quieter" than a cd

how are you getting the signal into the car audio system? if you are using the headphone output into your aux in that is most likely the problem

a cheap way to clean your ipod is to buy some brasso. a little brasso on a cloth will buff out the scratches. buff lightly

yo terry, why is the headphone jack to an aux in not the way to go?

the headphone jack is not as good a signal as you get from the plug at the base, check out axxess, i sell their products and they make a kit that gives you a plug for the bottom of the ipod which is what all ipod specific adaptors use, and then the other end wires to accessory power to charge the ipod and it also gives you left and right rca jacks, its a much cleaner way to go

You can also try a lil "Bar Keepers Friend"... It's a powder that looks like Ajax or Comet, but won't scratch anything.
And Terry is correct about the quality from the headphone jack.

128 used to be the standard.

now, the best MP3 compression is VBR. (it varies the bit rate depending on the music)
the best way to put music on your ipod, is to use the apple loss-less compression. it takes up more space, but well worth it, since indistinguishable from CDs. its worth it, especially since you have a 60GB ipod

personally, i use VBR, i can barely tell a difference, and only on some songs. when its at 128, it sounds like garbage.
