anyone know of a good wifi locator program?

Post by Chris from Washington »

My internet has been flaky lately, and would like to have a backup.

My old laptop has a wifi card, but the software that came with the card sucks and doesn't work half the time.

It's a win98 machine, and I can't seem to find any software to help me locate hotspots that will run on it. Anyone know of any?

Thanks

Netstumbler

Not sure if it will work under win98, but you can try.

You should take off win98 and just use linux :)

I've been trying to get netstumbler to work, but they say that it will only work with certain cards under windows 98.

Ya, win98SE and a D-Link DWL-G650.

It used to work, with the supplied software but it was always flaky and now doesn't work at all.

I had the t-mobile software on it, but it requires a subscription to allow you to hook to other networks. But it does see the card, and displays the signal strength. So I know the card is working.
