Subwoofer placement...

Post by thebigo »

Well, I have a Ford Aerostar, generic minivan, and I took out the middle row of seats. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put my subwoofers (2 10" Kickers in a pre-fab box) along side the wall of my van (green box A). I'm either going to put them there (and maybe pad the top of the box so it suplies an extra seay) or in the trunk (red box B). What do you guys think?

*Edit-Sorry the pic is so small, that's all that the site would allow me to load...

In the back is what I would do.

Generally, in the back, pointed toward the back.

If you have some way to meter SPL, you should try it a bunch of different locations/aimings to see which way gives you the most SPL. Another good thing to do would be to measure phase to make sure it's in phase with your midbass (if it gives you the highest SPL reading, it's probably in phase, unless you just put it right behind you).

try both. see what sounds better to you.
personally I think two tens are a bit small for an aerostar or windstar.

we did one for a customer once with six fifteens in it back in the early 90s. you could feel that thing coming literally a mile away.

Fill it with subs and make the enclosures shaped like seats, carpet the sides and cushioned material tops... And don't forget the seat belts... wouldn't want the people sitting there escape to fast :p

Haha, that's a great idea, and when I get more money, I will get more subs, I just started driving so I need to pay for insure and gas, not to mention I'm starting college in 3 months...
