taking tires off a rim..

Post by Scarrell »

ok, i know someone has to know how, i have four 18" rims.. and i have new tires.. and i want to take the old ones off, and take the rims and new tires to a shop and have them put them on(only cost $40 this way, i have no more cash, so it isnt an option to have them take the old tires off..etc), one rim i have off already because the tire went to crap, so im trying to pry it off with a flathead and some other random flat tools and im not getting anywhere at all.. so i say F it and take a utility knife to the tire and cut the all the way around the side walls on both sides.. now i just have rubber along the edges, and i cant get it off.. how the F do i get the godd@mn tires off " a better way ". :argh :help:

Thats what you get for running low pros.

With wider tires, you take a BIG screw driver, start at one side, and slide it around the rim working the lip of the tire over the edge of the rim. Its not easy but it can be done.

With low pros it the same concept, but a HELL of alot harder to do.

Just be careful not to ruin the bead or you're going to have to run a tube permanently in that tire.

cut them off......an angle grinder with metal cutting disc should get through those things pretty easy, just dont cut the wheel

I agree with Sinister on this... I tried to do this when i had my Rabit... lets just say bad idea using the Disc Grinder... F'd up the rim and the tire was still on it by the time i just gave up... Trust me, Its probably just better to see if you can break a deal with the Mechanics at ur local garage

I have to agree with everyone that this will be dificult. The only other advice I have is to use your tire tool. You may get a little more leverage out of it, that is what I use when taking a tire off the rim.
