gun question
i semi agree with you, william. i think that cutting down on the violence in tv/movies/games/music will help for future generations, but its not going to stop much right now. Also, i think parenting is an issue. I listen to rap, watch all kinds of violent stuff on tv/movies and in games. But i'm not a violent person. I'm not interested in guns to kill people.

i think everyone should be armed . only law enforcement and military should have guns that is ridiculous America was founded with a system of checks and balances to avoid tyranny one of those systems was the right to bear arms so so supreme power cannot enforce unjust law by the sword. its the 2nd amendment its not for protecting ourself and property from common criminals its for protecting ourself and property from our government or any other force that seeks to take away any of our rights outlined in the constitution.
you know about the 3 branches of government that do checks and balances against one another executive legislative and judicial our founding fathers saw that this wasnt enough and that they still had to much power as a government in this system so they added a fourth the individual citizen. people fail to realize this i think. it sucks about your friend but ill never give up liberty for a false sense of security like so many people are willing to do.
look at switzerland nearly all males are required to carry a gun and they have very little violent crime
they could also really believe in community duty and the guns have no effect

[quote="brisgreat1"]well the people in philadelphia, and other cities and parts of the world, have proven that they cant handle the responsibility of carrying/owning guns. my stance is that if guns were illegalized]
If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Marijuana and any other type of drug that you deal with are illegal as well, but regardless of the laws passed and the supposed control of drug trafficing they are still definately not scarce. A gun is a pretty simple device that can be pretty easily fabricated by competent metalworking. There are also plenty of other weapons that people will make and use as an alternative even if guns weren't available. The ones that do go to the effort of getting a concealed carry license, do the background checks, and go through the necessary steps for gun ownership are generally the ones that will handle a gun responsibly. I keep a pistol in my room because if my home is broken into and I'm not there, that's the only equalizer my wife and child have, and I've taught my wife how to handle a gun specifically for self defense situations such as that if I weren't there. And she certainly isn't the type to go on a killing rampage :happy055: . A friend of mine in college had his home broken into and he was shot due to a burglar, and while he did survive the recovery is definately not pleasant. just like that crook felt he had the right to barge in with a gun in his hand, I feel my friend had every right to use a gun to defend himself. Just unfortunate that he didn't have one.
And you'd also be eliminating the sporting aspect, mainly hunting, which will piss off a LOT of people and the animal population would be enormous compared to what it is now. Which actually isn't a good thing, you get more of a breed (say a deer), then they start eating up everything in their habitat, a scarcity of food, and eventually ALL of the deer grow up to be unhealthy, weak, and undersized. Not counting the traffic hazards that such creatures would present, and the lack of food for those that do hunt to save money on the grocery bill.

when things are outlawed, they are outlawed for the majority of the people... i.e. drugs, nuclear bombs, certain behaviors and acts. yes guns can be refabricated, however, bombs can be made using your everyday washing detergents and some other ingerdients. even if guns were illegalize they would never truly be outlawed, but the abundancy of guns would be reduced greatly which would, for the most part, keep weapons out of the hands of bad people. i guess the argument is too two sided to make a stronger case for either side, to each their own i suppose.

I agree there needs to be better gun control and that not every deserves the right to have/carry a gun.
I think you need to complete some type of class to get a gun permit, and maybe take a mental health test or something...
Whatever ever happended to one on one fist fighting?

we need people control not gun control
and you cant be mentaly ill and buy a gun pretty much anywhere
if they were made illegal then only criminal would have them and the abundance of guns would not be reduced at all look how well the war on drugs has done.
guns arent the problem. other countries have a much greater abundace of guns and much less gun violence. the problem is the people

i dont think hes referring to mentally ill people, i think hes referring that people who are allowed to legally possess guns must be mentally fit. In other words they won't go out and do a number on people they don't like, their school or any other kind of terroristic shooting. I agree with that too.
