4ch to 2ch?

Post by georgestr »

I'm working on building a front stage in my Navigator. I ordered a Hifonics Titan 4 channel amplifier, and some DLS 425 speakers, but have yet to purchase rear speakers. Can I hook up the amp at 4x55watts, and only use the front channels without causing overload or damage?

Thanks

George

using 2 channels of a 4channel amp is perfectly fine. It does no harm to the amp. Heck, bridge the front chanels to one side of the fronts, and bridge the rear channels to the other side of the fronts. It should make for a pretty loud front stage.

Seems like a good all-around amp. I'm connecting it to DLS 425 speakers, which I think should produce a nice, clear sound.

A lot of us here a favorable to Hifonics stuff on here as they do make very good amps ;)
Only downfall being that Hifonics stuff is all over ebay and other sites that aren't authorized to sell it, and although you may get a stellar deal if something gets screwed up you're stuck with a paper weight :p

Well, this was an eBay find. $90 shipped, which seems like a great deal, and I figure if I get screwed, I learn a good lesson, and go buy another Eclipse. I've had my sub setup hooked up to an oscilloscope, and I never clipped it, even a good bit past what I normally have it at, so I think this one should be good to me.

I'm not saying that you can't find good deals out there, but I just like to warn everybody as a lot of the stuff says that it's got a warranty, but usually not...
As for setting up your amp(s), using an O-scope is actually the best way, but a dmm is the most affordable (heck I don't even have an O-scope... although I'm sure I'll break down and buy one some day) :thumbsup

I have noticed the same thing about alot of stuff on ebay. But I am alright buying from a store online as long as they offer a warranty.

I have a connection with a guy who has one, will probably drag it out again to set up this amp. I finished running all the wire today, ordered 50', came about 3' short, so i'll have to do a little splice and dice, which pisses me off. Nobody warned me about the terrors of running speaker wires in cars, took me 6 hours to do the two front channels. Amp arrives tomorrow, so hopefully I can cut the speaker mounts and get everything working.

Thanks for the help!
