well i was lookin around ascendants forums and a lot of people said they produce good midbass (their cones are light yet very stiff) When i get my money in im gonna call the guy and talk to him, im sure he will be able to tell me what I can expect from 2 of their 12s. Hopefully they are pretty loud, that would rock at only 145 a piece

I'm just saying if you want ideal results from a 12" sub, don;t run it any higher than 80Hz at most.
you can of course do whatever you like in the end, I'm just letting you know how to get the best results.
even at 80Hz, a 6.5" midrange speaker on a decent amplifier will roll off to that 12" sub when it's HP filtered @ say 120Hz 12dB/octave Q and the sub is 18dB/octave 80Hz.
you're talking thess than an octave of gap between the sub and 6.5" and the two speakers' roll of slopes will blend to fill that gap. there is absolutely no reason to run a sub higher than 80Hz in a car.

You won't damage a sub running it that high, you could run a sub full range and not damage it, you just won't get optimal results that way, particularly in imaging, of course SQ would suffer as well.

Also, remember that people's definition of midbass differs. Some consider midbass as the point between low and upper bass, and some define it as the transition from upper bass to midrange region. I consider it in terms of octaves as follows:

20-40 Hz: extreme low bass
40-80 Hz: low bass
80-160Hz: mid bass
160-320Hz: upper bass
320-640Hz: lower midrange
640-1250Hz: midrange
1250-2500Hz: upper midrange
2500-5000Hz: lower treble
5000-10000Hz: mid treble
10000-20000Hz: high treble

Again, that's not an industry standard or anything, but that's just how I consider it, and I'm just pointing out that some people define it differently. Others consider midbass as being closer to the 200hz or so region. If you crossed the sub(s) over at 250hz, you'd be hearing low vocals from them.

hmm, Im considering 2 atlas 15s now, im scared 2 12s wont be that much of an improvement over my Infinity References, i know if I get 15s i wont be able to get much midbass from em, but then again who knows, maybe I will like how it sounds. two 15s would be awesome lol.

er a subwoofer isn't meant to play midbass, like jonathan said, typically midbass is in the hundreds hz...subwoofers are meant to play under 80 or so (hence why many HU's have a LP filter for a sub, 80hz being the highest it goes) ... sounds like you just need to get some comps with good midbass. It will cost you, but it should be cheaper than getting 2 15" subs and crossing them over at 250hz...

I plan on gettin comps but I still dont think that will be sufficent midbass for me, lol. My reference subs sound fine hittin midbass notes, guess im lucky, my ears arent spoiled hehehe
